Is it like that bottomless pit we used to have as kids (the ones our parents complained about) -- only just for ice cream? Cause that I can totally relate to.
Yes! The Ice Cream, and all the exercise that makes it "good for you" and guilt-free. We are in the mountains (Sierra Nevadas) now, still hiking too. But we're heading home in a couple of days, so I'll have to keep up the walking somehow too, so I can keep eating the good things.
This made me laugh in a happy way because there is so much good food here- even the more highly processed stuff still feels so much better to me than the US kind (often red and yellow candies are coloured with beetroot and turmeric, for example)- and I love it when people get to discover it! Also happy for you just to eat & go- no overthinking or guilt or anything. Yay!
I could relate to this so much. I grew up visiting family in Europe during many summers. You just walk everywhere. You walk a couple miles to church on Sunday mornings. You walk half a mile to the grocery store. You walk everywhere and you eat a lot of ice cream and you feel great! (And magnums have a special place in my heart because of all those summers.)
It's one of the most frustrating things to me about where I live that walking places isn't common culturally or supported through infrastructure. (And also because the heat in the summer is dire.) If I could just walk to church, walk to the library, walk to the grocery store, I wouldn't have to think about how to fit in a workout otherwise.
Exactly. In our former agricultural and small town and urban cultures in the US, this would've happened, too. But car culture has led to infrastructure that makes walking difficult.
Thank you, Dixie, for this delightful piece. I identify with all the sentiments expressed. Thanks for making me LOL on my lunch break. Now how do I keep from eating half a carton of chocolate ice cream at a time? I guess I’ll just have to keep stopping at Burger King on a regular basis for a slice of Hershey pie!
love, love, love! So glad you're back and full of ice cream! :)
I dunno, there's this spot in me that's ice-cream-less...better fix that today, don't you think?

What do you mean "used to have"?
hahahaha. TOUCHE
I try to keep a good quality vanilla ice cream in the freezer.
For a quick dessert, I melt chocolate chips and butter on the stovetop, until glossy, then top the vanilla ice cream.
Delicious!
Sounds so yummy!

It creates such a good balance! Sounds like fun in the mountains...
A bowl of chocolate ice cream is heaven to me!
Sometimes good, plain chocolate ice cream is just exactly what we need!

Totally agree. Even the French fries were obviously less creepy than the American version.
McDonald’s in Italy and Austria is actually pretty nice 😅
So depressing for us in the U.S.

I would NEVER endorse less pie!
As to the ice cream...get a smaller carton and eat the whole thing!
