Barring a disability, why would anyone want to NOT tag along with their kids trick or treating? My family usually goes to a party hosted by friends from church, who live in a fantastic suburb perfect for trick or treating. We adults even get in on the fun by dressing up, and then we trail our kids by a few houses while they trick or treat. It’s a fantastic time to hang out and we all have fun. It boggles my mind that some people would trade that for sitting in their car.
Well, I'm sure there are reasons for staying in the car, even if it's just a matter of preference! I'm not much of a "crowds" person myself, so I go with the kids because it's needed in order for them to be able to go trick-or-treating. It's fine but it's not something I love doing. I get why many parents would love it, though, like you and your crew do!
But the main point is that trailing kids in your car when there are other children in the road is just madness. It endangers other children!
I have never heard of car trailing for trick or treating but it definitely makes sense that some people would do it, sadly. Walking around in a community is such a healthy activity for so many reasons, I think we will stick to that as long as we can!
Aw, thanks, Ruth! I am happy to report that last year there was far less of the car-trailing in our neighborhood. Hopefully this year will be even better!
Oh, I just realized that this was featured in Let Grow! Wonderful :) My youngest son just had his cockpit project mentioned in the blog on Friday (which he was quite excited about!)
In our old neighborhood, no one did Halloween, not even handing out candy! Our current neighborhood is the opposite, and very kid-friendly. I don't think anyone here would drive around and it's great to have everyone one out on one night, at least :)

I am so glad you haven't heard of it -- hopefully this means it is not widely practiced!
I remembered this piece from last year - has a year gone by already?! Always enjoy reading your very sane and insightful reflections Dixie :)

I know, I saw that! I thought it was awesome. I love Let Grow and am always looking for ways to support/share their work!
