The hand-cranked machine has been a great resource for our family. It's a great group activity and...well, I already sang its praises in the essay! But it really has been a wonderful thing to have.
The pre-party description made me laugh because I can so relate to that borderline despair of having committed to getting all of my people in shoes and out the door for something fun that I know I will eventually be glad I did. Loved this article.
Finally got to read this because my Front Porch Republic newsletter reminded me :) I love how you describe real life so accurately and honestly. I share much in common with you when it comes to sending out invitations that produce dread once they actually arrive (although I am an extrovert at heart I still experience the dread and frazzle when the date comes near...). But over many years I have witnessed how the ideas we initiate into action bear fruit - this is something wonderful for your kids to witness as well! They can see that your words and ideas transform into action, events, and connection. That is powerful :)
I wonder how many of us feel like this! There is always a risk in doing something "big" (even a "little big" something like hosting an ice cream making party). But as you say, it can bear considerable fruit. Discerning when and how to exert oneself for this kind of thing can be tricky but it's amazing how your mind and body can try to drag you away from something good.
Ice cream for the win 🤗🤗🤗
Right?
What a fun party idea!!

Thanks, Mackenzie! Good to hear that I'm not the only one.
Me too! 🙋♀️
